අපේ "ෆ" අක්ෂරයට දැන් අවුරුදු 129යි😘

 

'ෆ' අක්ෂරය හඳුන්වාදී වසර 129 ක්

හෙළ බසට "ෆ" එකතු කළ විද්වතාණෝ

හෙළ බසට "ෆ" ශබ්දය නැඟීමට අක්ෂරයක් නොමැති වූ නිසා "ප" අක්ෂරය මත ඉංග්‍රීසි  හෝඩියේ"F” අකුර රදවා "ෆ" අක්ෂරය හඳුන්වා දුන්නේ මීට වසර 129කට ඉහතදී 1896 "ඥානදර්ශනය"සඟරාවේ මංගල කලාපයේය. ඔහු නමින් බලපිටිය වලව්වේ තිරිමාදුර එබ්‍රාහිම් මැන්දිස් ගුණසේකර විජය ශ්‍රී වර්ධන වාසල මුදලිතුමාය. ජ'මන් ජාතික විල්හෙල්ම් ගයිගර් මහතා පවසා ඇත්තේ ලංකාවේ පමණක් නොව යුරෝපයේ පවා එවන් පුළුල් භාෂා ඥානයක් ඇති අයෙකු සොයා ගැනීමට අපහසු බවයි.

1860 ජූනි මස 14 වන දින ගාල්ල දිස්ත්‍රික්කයේ බලපිටිය ග්‍රාමයෙහි  තිරිමාදුර  බස්තියන් මැන්දිස් මුදලිතුමාට සහ අසේයා ද සොයිසා  මැතිණියට දාව තිරිමාදුර එබ්‍රාහිම් මැන්දිස් ගුණසේකර උපත ලැබීය. හෙතෙම බලපිටියේ රංදොඹේ වෙස්ලියන් විද්‍යලයෙන් සහ කොළඹ රාජකීය විද්‍යාලයෙන් සිප්සතර හැදෑරීය. පාසලේ සෑම අංශයකින්ම විශිෂ්ඨ  ලෙස දස්කම් පෙන් වූ හෙතෙම ඉංග්‍රීසි ආණ්ඩුවේ ලිපිකාර විභාගයෙන් ඉහළින්ම සමත් විය.  අවුරුදු 20 දී ඒජන්ත කාර්‍යාලයේ ලිපිකරුවෙකු ලෙස සේවය කළ හෙතෙම ඒ අතරතුර වස්කඩුව ශ්‍රී සුභූති නාහිමියන් යටතේ පාලි,සංස්කෘත භාෂා හදරන්නට විය.1901 වර්ෂයේදී හෙතෙම  "විජය ශ්‍රී වර්ධන " යන ගරු නාමයක් සහිත මුදලිදු පදවියෙන් පිදුම් ලැබීය.

යුරෝපීය ඇදුම් ආයිත්තම් අගය නොකළ හෙතෙම සිය බොදු පිළිවෙත් වෙනස් නොකළේය. භාෂා පරිවර්තකයෙක් ලෙස සේවය කළ ඔහු සිංහල, දෙමළ, පාලි, සංස්කෘත, මැලේ, ප්‍රංශ, ලතින්, ජර්මන් සහ ග්‍රීක් යන භාෂාවන් හී ප්‍රවීණයෙක් විය.

සිංහල ශබ්දකෝෂය ආරම්භ කිරීමට පුරෝගාමී  වූ මෙතුමා ඉංග්‍රීසි-සිංහල, සිංහල-ඉංග්‍රීසි ශබ්දකෝෂ දෙකෙහී ආදි කතෘ ද විය. මෙම කෘති දෙක 1905 දී එළි දැක්වූ අතර 1915දී වචන 20,000 ක එකතුවක් ඇති සිංහල -ඉංග්‍රීසි ශබ්දකෝෂය ලියා අවසන් කළේය.

සිංහල බසට සාහිත්‍යයට බුදු දහමට අනගි මෙහෙවරක් කළ තිරිමාදුර එබ්‍රාහිම් මැන්දිස් ගුණසේකර 1931 පෙබරවාරි 9 වන දින සදහටම දෙනෙත් පියා ගත්තේය.

වත්මනේ ඔහු විසින් සිදු කළ ඒ අප්‍රමාණ සේවය අගය නොකිරීම කණගාටුවට කරුණකි.

Mudali who introduced letter "ෆ"(F)

The letter "ෆ"(F) was introduced 129 years ago with the letter”F” in English alphabet on the letter "ප" (p) as the sinhala language didn’t have the letter”F” to raise the sound.

His name was Ibrahim Mendis Gunasekara Wijaya Sri Wardhana Wasala Mudali at Balapitiya Mansion.Wilhelm Geiger a german person said that it was difficult to find such a person wide-ranging linguist  not only Sri Lanka but also Europe.

He was born on 14 June 1860 in Balapitiya,Galle district to Thirimadura Bastian Mendis Mudali and Mrs.Aseya De Soyza.

He was studied at Wesleyan college and Royal college Colombo. He excelled in every aspect of the school.He passed the English government clearks' exam with distinction in Ceylon and joined the agent's office as a clerk,at the age of 20.Meanwhile,he started learning Pali,Sanskrit from ven.Waskaduwa Sri Subuthi Thero.In 1901,he was conferred the title of Mudalindu with honorory title of "Wijaya Sri Wardhana".

He didn't wear european attire and didn't change buddhist practices.

He worked as a translator and fluent in Sinhala,Pali,Sanskrit ,Hindi,Tamil,French,Greek and German.He was pioneer of the Sinhala-English,English-Sinhala dictionaries and published it in 1905.He finished writing the Sinhala-English Dictionary with a collection of 20,000 words.He made a great contribution  to Sinhala language,Literature and Buddhism.

He passed away on February 9,1931.However, It is unfortunate that his service as a country is not appreciated.
